Okefenokee NWR — Suwannee Canal Recreation Area

The Suwannee Canal entrance has a boardwalk out over the swamp plus canoe rentals and guided boat tours for closer looks at one of the largest gator populations in the country. Warmer months bring gators out to bask along the canal and boardwalk edges; a guided tour is the safest way to get near open water. If you paddle yourself, keep well clear of any gator you see and never paddle at it for a better photo. Feeding wildlife in the refuge is illegal.
